ADVOCACY & LITIGATION
CURRENT LITIGATION
PHOTO ID
The Missouri NAACP is serving as a plaintiff alongside the League of Women Voters, both represented by the ACLU, in a case challenging a law that requires Missouri voters to present a government-issued photo ID in order to vote. Laws such as this have already been struck down twice by state courts for being unconstitutional, and we will continue to stand on our belief that the law creates an unnecessary barrier to voting for vulnerable Missourians.
VOTER REGISTRATION LIMITATIONS
The Missouri NAACP is serving as a plaintiff alongside the League of Women Voters, both represented by the ACLU, in a case challenging provisions of HB 1878 that limit voter registration and absentee ballot solicitation efforts across the state. Voter registration and absentee ballot solicitation are crucial to our work and we must protect our right to engage in these basic civic actions.
DISPARITY INDEX
The State Conference has sued the Attorney General to force the office to publish the disparity index as required by law. The disparity index is a key indicator of racially motivated traffic stops, searches, and arrests. Without a clear and consistent measurement, it is difficult to determine if intervention methods are effective. Without this index, we cannot objectively show the existence of "Driving While Black."

JOIN OUR LEGAL
REDRESS TEAM
Are you an attorney who wants to join the oldest civil rights organization in the country in our fight for dignity and justice? We are always looking for passionate individuals to join our legal redress team!
While our legal redress team does not give legal advice, we receive and review complaints filed with the Missouri NAACP of instances of racial discrimination and unjust action taken against members of our community. When appropriate, we provide referrals to trusted attorneys who can offer support in these matters.
Additionally, the legal redress team supervises any litigation in which the Missouri NAACP is interested and provides updates as to the progress of cases.
